Amber is the fossilised form of tree resin, often containing animal and plant material as inclusions  and indeed, quite famously the science fiction film Jurassic Park fictitiously used the dna extracted from some amber to clone dinosaurs. Amber is a soft gem being only 2.5 on the hardness scale and care must be taken in order not to scratch Amber when used in Jewellery.

Formed from tree resin by high temperatures and pressures and split into 5 classes depending upon their chemical composition
